Antonio Bandeira - Um abstracionista lírico em Paris

O artista brasileiro Antonio Bandeira, pioneiro da abstração no Brasil, teve sua obra exposta na Unesco, em Paris. A mostra L’Abstraction lyrique dans la peinture de Bandeira (A abstração lírica nas pinturas de Bandeira) permitiu ao visitante uma visão aprofundada da obra desse importante pintor.
O pintor brasileiro Antonio Bandeira nasceu em Fortaleza, em 1922. Desde muito jovem, chamou a atenção por seu talento incomum. Aos 23 anos Fortaleza, com o incentivo de Raymond Warnier, adido cultural da França, que visitava a cidade. Depois de um ano no Rio de Janeiro, após uma exposição coletiva e apenas uma exposição individual, a Embaixada Francesa concedeu-lhe uma bolsa de estudos em Paris, que teria a duração de um ano. Porém, o artista permaneceu em Paris de 1946 a 1950,e desenvolveu uma sólida carreira, sempre dividido entre o Rio de Janeiro e Paris.
Entre 1951 e 54, permaneceu no Brasil, mantendo intensa atividade. Participou, neste período, das Bienais de São Paulo e de Veneza, expôs nos grandes museus do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo, e recebeu medalhas em vários salões.
A partir de 1955, participou de várias exposições em Londres, Paris, Munique e Nova York. Em 1965, voltou a Paris para sua última temporada, lá permanecendo até sua morte prematura.
A mostra teve como curadora Vera Novis, que realizou uma extensa pesquisa junto a acervos públicos e privados, do Brasil e do exterior, durante cerca de dez anos. Vera Novis é igualmente responsável pelos textos crítico e biográfico do catálogo bilíngue (português e francês), que conta com a reprodução das obras expostas e enfatiza os longos períodos em que Bandeira esteve em Paris – de 1946, ano de sua chegada à capital francesa, a 1967, ano de sua morte nessa mesma cidade –, bem como sua inserção de destaque no meio artístico francês e europeu.
A Expomus foi responsável pela proposição e coordenação geral da exposição, que contou com o apoio do Ministério da Cultura, por intermédio da Lei de Incentivo à Cultura (Lei Rouanet). A mostra teve patrocínio do Banco de Investimentos Credit Suisse (Brasil) S/A, Brabus, Dassault Aviation, DCNS e Thales.
As obras expostas na mostra são provenientes de coleções particulares e institucionais do Rio de Janeiro, de São Paulo, Fortaleza e Salvador, além de documentos de época que incluíram cartas, fotografias, convites e catálogos de exposições, artigos de jornais e revistas. Muito conhecida em Paris e no Brasil nas décadas de 1950 e 1960, a obra do pintor estava no esquecimento do grande público brasileiro, até que uma exposição realizada em 1995 possibilitou a reavaliação de seu trabalho.
