Com curadoria de Rodrigo Naves e da própria artista, a mostra reuniu cerca de 70 imagens de moradias da Favela da Linha, em São Paulo, e de dezenas de cidades do nordeste. A artista plástica Elisa Bracher, conhecida por suas gravuras e esculturas de grande dimensão, expôs sua primeira mostra fotográfica ‘A cidade e suas margens’, em 27 de setembro de 2008, no Museu da Casa Brasileira. A mostra que teve produção cultural da Expomus, apresentou cerca de 70 imagens de habitações da Favela da Linha, em São Paulo, e de cidades do nordeste brasileiro, onde nasceram alguns de seus moradores.
As fotos produzidas por Elisa em 2007 possuem um cunho antropológico e social, que provém de uma documentação comparativa de questões estéticas e estruturais evidenciadas por meio das precárias construções. As imagens foram ampliadas para o formato 100 X 70 cm e impressas com pigmentos minerais sobre papel artesanal sem brilho, feito de algodão.
Durante cinco anos, Elisa Bracher manteve um vínculo intenso com os moradores da Favela da Linha, localizada no entorno do CEAGESP. Esse contato foi iniciado devido à proximidade entre a comunidade e seu atelier, que passou a chamar a atenção dos habitantes da região. Assim foi criado o Ateliê Acaia, um espaço de convivência e atividades que, através do ensino da arte, auxilia crianças e jovens que vivem no local e suas famílias.
Devido ao crescente desenvolvimento imobiliário do bairro, os moradores da Favela da Linha, que ocupam o espaço há cerca de 40 anos, passaram a sofrer grande pressão das construtoras e da administração pública para deixarem o local. Nesse contexto, a artista realizou um levantamento fotográfico das casas para comprovar a quantidade de famílias residentes, como parte de um movimento por melhores condições de habitação.
Além disso, a mostra revelou um olhar incomum sobre as favelas, que normalmente são vistas como redutos de pobreza onde reina a homogeneidade de construções. Trilhando o caminho contrário, Elisa Bracher buscou registrar momentos em que a comunidade revela suas singularidades, exprimindo a criatividade de seus moradores nas formas e cores das casas e barracos.
O estudo realizado na Favela da Linha deu origem a um segundo ensaio fotográfico, realizado meses depois, em sete estados do nordeste brasileiro: Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Fortaleza, Paraíba, Pernambuco e Piauí. Elisa partiu em busca da origem de alguns dos migrantes que habitam a comunidade, registrando suas moradias da mesma maneira. O resultado obtido, no entanto, é completamente diferente. As casas são mais íntegras e menos amontoadas, o que permite enquadramentos mais amplos e há a revelação de lugares e mesmo de paisagens.
